VACCINATIONS YES OR NO ? |
In 1999 the Government introduced a vaccine to protect people against meningitis C. Before the vaccine was introduced the Group C bacteria accounted for around 30% of cases of meningitis in the UK. Group B bacteria cause about 60 – 65% of meningitis cases. There is still no vaccine to protect children against Group B bacteria or many other equally deadly forms of meningitis and septicaemia. Because of this, it is vital that you are able to recognise the symptoms of these diseases and get medical help immediately.
What you'll find in Vaccinations - Yes or No?
We look at the number of cases of Meningitis C in the UK since 1990 to see how effective the vaccine has been.
We consider whether there has been any change in the number of cases of other meningococcal disease.
We list the side effects of the Meningitis C vaccine as stated by the Government and vaccine manufacturers' leaflets.
